AML fines questions

How the tracker works.

What counts as an AML fine?

A penalty or settlement against a company for failures in anti-money laundering, sanctions, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring or suspicious activity reporting, or for running an unlicensed money business. Prison sentences for individuals and unrelated fines, such as accounting or securities disclosure cases, are not included.

Where does the data come from?

From the regulators' own published penalty lists and notices: FinCEN, OFAC, the OCC, the FCA and FINTRAC, plus fines from other regulators that our AML News Radar picks up. Every record is checked by a person before it is published and links to its source.

How often is it updated?

Regulator lists are checked every week, and new fines spotted in the news are reviewed in the same weekly cycle.

Why does a fine appear twice for the same company?

When two regulators penalise the same company, each penalty is its own record. Bank of America's October 2026 fines from FinCEN and the OCC are two records, not one combined figure.

Why do amounts differ from news reports?

News stories often add several agencies' penalties together or round the figure. The tracker shows each regulator's amount in its original currency, with an approximate US dollar value at the notice date.

Can I use the data?
